Space travel and exploration is the only hope for humanity. Life on Earth is too precious to only keep in one place. We have to expand. What if our planet becomes uninhabitable at some point? Then, humanity's investments in space may save us. Also, as long as we travel in space, there is less room for stupid political decisions. We can say: "If we can travel in space, we can do this!"
If there's an opportunity for someone like myself to make a trip in space, I would happily accept because not only would a childhood dream come true that I since long have given up on, but I could use that experience to advocate space exploration.
